Sa Binayaan

Ngowan na gukop na a puerta
ag su naka-agi linuwas na baga na
angin sadto mga rehas, o mga papeles
na linupad o kaya napunok na boses,
sari pigdagos ana banwaan?

Uban na a talinga kading mga batong
ringring nag-iimuya sana sa mga maamot,
a taguktok ka takon ka kandang sapatos
magsusuway ka mga tiil na talmok sa lamod.
Sari a kusog ka mga agko pawod?

Nagsisirang pa man a Sumagang.
A bangraw niya inaapulas ana mga dawon
ka paroy, mga kawoy na maaktar
na aatubangon a mga burong-burong.
Alagad balaog sana sa nagtitindog.

Kaya bangon na su mga san kulod,
ag mga oma, su nangangaturugan ka aldow
sa kangitngitan, darahon a ono man
na makaptan: asyab, tob, martilyo.
Itugrok ta bagong sirungan ka banwaan!

For the Abandoned

Now that the door had been shut
and the past slipped by like the wind
through the railings, or papers
blown away or voices silenced,
where is the country heading?

For long these stone walls
have ears only for the perfumed,
the clopping of their soles
separating the unshod and muddied feet.
Where lies the strength of those with a yoke?

The sun still shines at Sumagang.
Its light caresses the leaves
of palay, trees that bravely
face the gathering storm.
But it's meant only for those who stand.

So rise now you who are on the hills,
the fields, those who dream of the sun
amidst the darkness of night, grab whatever
you can: sickle, chisel, hammer.
Let us build the new sanctuary of the people!
